PENPET GREEN Chemicals supplies 12-Hydroxystearic acid (12-HSA) – bio-based gelling agent from castor oil for organogels, lithium soap greases, printing inks and cosmetics.
12-Hydroxystearic acid (12-HSA) is produced by hydrogenation of ricinoleic acid from castor oil. It is a C18 fatty acid with a hydroxyl group at position 12 – giving it unique gelling properties in non-aqueous systems. PENPET GREEN Chemicals supplies 12-HSA under its own label.
12-HSA is regarded as one of the most effective bio-based gelling agents for oils. At 1–5% it forms stable gel networks. It is also a precursor for lithium stearate (lithium soap greases) and used as a lubricant and corrosion inhibitor.
